Dear Peninsula Dressage Members, nonmembers, and competitors,
There has been much confusion with how the WSW show is going this year. I want to clear that up with everyone. Our Peninsula chapter has voted on making some changes in how the accounting works for the WSW show. All you competitors need to be aware of this now. We voted recently to retain the our class fees from this show, so that we would get some income for our chapter members. Losing the income from this 5th show of the year seriously strapped us for our Year End awards party and has greatly affected any surplus we have had to give to Dressage education-which is our true purpose!! We voted to adopt the PVDA model of accounting with their Ride For Life show. (They raise donations for Hopkins, and retain their class fees-giving a small donation from them) We will be giving 100% of all pure donations including: The Prix St. George, Intermediate, and Grand Prix donations, as well as any 50/50 matchings to WSW directly. This amounted to $3000 last year alone!! We retain our class fees and deduct all expenses including: judges, photographer, ribbons, printing, etc. We will then make a small donation from that profit. Regardless of anyone's opinion at this point the Peninsula members voted on this and it will stand!!
Our regular class fees at Peninsula shows were raised to $20 this year. This was to help hire some higher level judges for our shows, which we did! At the same time, the WSW show class fee was raised to $21 specifically for giving to WSW . Now that we are retaining the class fees, this $1 fee will still go to WSW. We were thinking of removing that $1 altogether, but it takes a vote to change that. Because we are retaining the class fees this year, we will still donate that $1 difference to WSW as part of our donation from the class fees. We are also going to give the highest donation-Grand Prix level-$100 from the class fees also. So, if there are 60 rides, then $60 + the $100.
This show was almost cancelled because our manager resigned. Fortunately, many members kindly stepped up to the plate to help out, including myself as manager. Change does not come easy, but is necessary at times. I wanted to explain to all of our nonmember competitors how it's being done-you all need to know. Please bear with us as we make these needed changes. Any questions please ask me, and make sure it's not going out to the full membership email list. This is for OFFICIAL USE ONLY!!!
It is my hope that we can come together and hold this show which does benefit WSW. They will be receiving 100% of all the pure donations and the small donation from the class fees. They also get much exposure and attention from this. We must say their name thousands and thousands of times! It is written on all the programs and entries. It does benefit them by their own description! I hope this clears things up, now let's get out there and make it happen!
Respectfully Yours,
Kim Briele
